Adoption training offered for Mesa County families

Are you considering adoption and interested in learning more about the journey? Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS) is offering a three-session Adoption Training series this fall to help families understand the adoption process and connect with resources and support.
The training will provide families with information and guidance at different stages of the adoption and post-permanency journey.
Adoption Training Sessions
Session 1: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10
The MCDHS Adoption Team will walk participants through what to expect during the adoption journey and answer frequently asked questions.
Session 2: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24
This session will feature presentations from the MCDHS Therapy Team, including Bryan Conklin on attachment and family systems and Domenica Steele on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
Session 3: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8
The final session will focus on family empowerment and post-permanency resources, including the Adoption & Post Permanency Support Group, post-permanency resources, resource sharing and Respite Village.
Sessions will be held at MCDHS Conference Room 1060, with virtual participation available for applicable sessions. In-person participation is highly recommended for the sessions designated for in-person attendance.
Whether you are beginning to explore adoption or are already navigating the process, these sessions are an opportunity to learn, ask questions and connect with resources available to support families.
